What is Staffordshire Leaving Care Mentoring Project?

Set up in 1999 Staffordshire Leaving Care Mentoring Project is a partnership between SOVA and Staffordshire Leaving Care Service. The project recruits and trains volunteer mentors from a variety of backgrounds within the local community to befriend and assist young people leaving care to fulfil their potential and make the most of opportunities available to them.

Mentoring is tailored to meet the individual needs of each young person referred to the project. Mentors are non-judgmental and can assist young people by offering guidance and support to help them develop confidence and self-esteem, and to identify their own goals for a positive future. Mentors can also support young people to access local resources and information, education, training, and employment opportunities, as well as offering a listening ear.
